Published 1 Apr 2026 · Last updated 1 Apr 2026

TAN applications are now split into Form 134 (Government) and Form 135 (non-Government).
Under Section 397 of the Income-tax Act, 2025 and Rule 216 of the Income-tax Rules, 2026, TAN allotment applications are made in Form 134 for Government entities and Form 135 for non-Government applicants (individuals and other entities). They replace the earlier Form 49B.
The Department's FAQs say PAN is mandatory for non-Government applicants, and proof of identity, address and date of birth/incorporation is required for them. After the acknowledgement is generated edits are not allowed; changes after allotment are made through the TAN change request form.
Existing TANs remain valid and need no re-application.
